- Method of application
Surfaces to receive Everlac Epoxy Floor Paint must be dry, clean, and free from oil, grease and other contamination and at least 4 weeks old. Smooth concrete should be prepared by light grinding or rotary sanding.
Very smooth surfaces should be etched before coating using a 12% - 15% solution of Hydrochloric Acid followed by a wash with clean water. The first coat should be thinned with 10% white spirit.
New tarmac should be left to harden for 4 weeks (summer) 12 weeks (winter) before coating. The first coat may cause a bleeding reaction with the bitumen, in this case leave to harden sufficiently to create a barrier before applying the 2nd coat.
Metal surfaces must be fully degreased with a strong solvent such as Xylol. Rusty surfaces and patches must be mechanically abraded feathering back to a sound edge so that at least 20 mm of clean metal is available outside the rust. Galvanised and other special finishes should not be coated without consulting Everlac.
Previously painted surfaces
Excellent adhesion can be achieved on these surfaces although the substrate must be sound and be mechanically prepared. Everlac Epoxy Floor Paint must be stirred thoroughly before and regularly during use. An Anti-slip Aggregate is available. If used this should be added before application and stirred thoroughly whilst applying to avoid settling.
DRYING AND CURING
At 20ºC and in good drying conditions Everlac Epoxy Floor Paint is touch dry in 1 hour and suitable to overcoat in 3 hours. At lower temperatures and poor drying conditions these times will be considerably extended. Always ensure good air movement and ventilation.
1 litre of Everlac Epoxy Floor Paint will typically cover 8–12m2 per coat on smooth substrates. Coverage will vary according to the nature of the surface being coated. At least two coats are required.
